The Geoscience Industrial Week 2019 (GIW 2019) is the fifth annual event organized by Geology Department of the University of Malaya and Kelab Geologi Universiti Malaya (KAGUM) in collaboration with the UM Science Society and the University of Malaya American Association of Petroleum Geologist (AAPG) Student Chapter. The first ever Geoscience Industrial Week was dated back in 2015 under the name of Mining, Oil & Gas Week 2015 (MOG 15) and it was in 2016 where this annual event was renamed to Geoscience Industrial Week (GIW) to accommodate more earth science related discussions beyond mining and oil & gas. Over the years, we have hosted countless national and international participants from various education level (secondary school, matriculation, undergraduate, postgraduate students), academia and industry figures within the realm of geoscience.

GIW has become a yearly anticipated event especially by students as we host an environment that allows maximum exchange of intellectual discourse between students with academia and industry leaders. With this year’s theme of “Progressing Towards Energy and Sustainable Development” we postulate a greater crowd and a more intensive intellectual discourse as we fulfill the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goal Agenda. Furthermore, GIW also acts as a platform that catalyzes potential partnerships and career opportunities for students.

GEOESCAPE

Geo-Escape is the new Geoquiz where there will be a new, exciting element to it: an escape room experience. Participants will be locked inside a room and they will need to use their wit and teamwork to solve the puzzles using the clues given. This competition aims to challenge geological knowledge of the students as well as to promote the vital role of Geoscience in society and in the industry.
